LEGO®Serious Play® is a facilitation methodology that uses LEGO bricks to encourage dialogue, reflection, and problem-solving. It helps individuals and teams explore complex issues and develop solutions through hands-on building and storytelling.
For this workshop, the PARTICIPATE Cluster came together under the direction of Jennifer Chalkley, who recently became an accredited LEGO®Serious Play® facilitator after completing a two-day training course with Serious Work, funded by the research cluster. Serious Work specialise in using this method in educational contexts which aligns with her teaching and research into construction toys in creative design processes. The LEGO®Serious Play® method was used to help the PARTICIPATE research cluster collaboratively explore and define potential directions for its future development.
If you want to use LEGO®Serious Play® in your own research or practice, a good start is the Open Source Guide which can be downloaded from https://www.lego.com/en-gb/themes/serious-play/background.
