PARTICIPATE welcomes our newest member Dr Ranis Cheng. Ranis’s research is situated at the intersection of sustainability, entrepreneurship and fashion, with a particular focus on community based and inclusive approaches. Within entrepreneurship, her work examines how local communities enable sustainable and inclusive entrepreneurial activity. She explores how entrepreneurs, particularly within immigrant communities, mobilise community ties to navigate the entrepreneurial process, build resilience and foster solidarity while developing sustainable ventures. The research is underpinned by close engagement with practice. Ranis collaborates with local artisan business and entrepreneurs through co-created live projects and workshops that contribute to entrepreneurial learning, sustainable education and curriculum innovation. Her work on immigrant entrepreneurship informs a broader research agenda that advances theoretical and practice-based understandings of inclusive and sustainable entrepreneurship. In the fashion context, Ranis’s research investigates the role of community in shaping sustainable behaviour. She is interested in how participation in community groups and events influences individuals’ sustainability mindsets and consumption practices, contributing to debates on sustainable fashion and behavioural change.
