PARTICIPATE members Mary Ikoniadou and Liz Stirling, together with Professor Kiff Bamford (LBU) presented the paper “Tear it up and start again: Issues of (non)representation in graphic design beyond the canon” at the AMPS Pedagogy 2025 conference (19 November). This project has emerged directly from our teaching, shaped by the questions and critical insights our students bring into the studio and seminars. Together with them we keep ‘stretching’ the curriculum beyond narrow male and Angloamerican histories and practices in graphic design.
Our next step is to prepare the paper for publication, the first time teaching informs research as it is usually the other way around!
